Note For Anyone Writing About Me

Guide to Writing About Me

I am an Autistic person, not a person with autism. I am also not Aspergers. The diagnosis isn't even in the DSM anymore, and yes, I agree with the consolidation of all autistic spectrum stuff under one umbrella. I have other issues with the DSM.

I don't like Autism Speaks. I'm Disabled, not differently abled, and I am an Autistic activist. Self-advocate is true, but incomplete.

I Hear You!

I hear you! I hear you!
I know what you say.
You say I am useless,
That I can not belong.
I'm not like the "real people."
I don't speak. I have nothing to say.
Not that you'd hear if I did.

I hear you! I hear you!
Though I wish I could not.
Each word is a knife through my heart.
I'm broken, I'm tragic.
A car accident.
In hushed tones you whisper,
You assume I don't know.

But I listen! I listen!
I listen all day.
It's all that I have, me with nothing to say.
Not sure how to tell you
Yes, yes, I am here.
But I am, I can hear you,
And I know what you say.
